  1  1    Section 1.  DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.  There is appropriated
  1  2 from the general fund of the state to the department of
  1  3 education for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2003, and
  1  4 ending June 30, 2004, the following amount, or so much thereof
  1  5 as is necessary, to be used for the purposes designated:
  1  6    For purposes of the academic incentives for minorities
  1  7 program established in section 260C.29:
  1  8 .................................................. $    350,000
  1  9                           EXPLANATION
  1 10    This bill appropriates $350,000 from the general fund of
  1 11 the state to the department of education for fiscal year 2003=
  1 12 2004 for purposes of the academic incentives for minorities
  1 13 program.
  1 14    The program is established in Code section 260C.29 to
  1 15 encourage collaborative efforts by community colleges, regents
  1 16 universities, and business and industry to enhance educational
  1 17 opportunities and provide for job creation and career
  1 18 advancement for Iowa's minorities by providing assistance to
  1 19 minorities who major in fields or subject areas where
  1 20 minorities are currently underrepresented or underutilized.
