  1  1    Section 1.  Section 483A.8, subsection 2, Code Supplement
  1  2 2003, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    2.  The deer hunting license shall be accompanied by a tag
  1  4 designed to be used only once.  When a deer is taken, the deer
  1  5 shall be tagged and the tag shall be dated.  The commission
  1  6 shall provide, by rule, for the issuance of an additional tag
  1  7 to a person who takes a deer and discovers that the deer is
  1  8 unusable for human consumption or the feeding of domestic
  1  9 animals due to disease or injury.  When such a deer is taken,
  1 10 the person shall immediately notify a conservation officer and
  1 11 the conservation officer shall examine the deer.  The person
  1 12 shall tag the deer and the tag shall be dated.  The tag shall
  1 13 also contain a notation by the conservation officer if the
  1 14 conservation officer determines that the deer is unusable.
  1 15 The conservation officer shall be responsible for making a
  1 16 determination that a deer is unusable and for the issuance of
  1 17 an additional tag that can be used to take another deer.
  1 18                           EXPLANATION
  1 19    This bill requires the natural resource commission to
  1 20 provide, by rule, for the issuance of an additional tag to a
  1 21 person who takes a deer and discovers that the deer is
  1 22 unusable for human consumption or the feeding of domestic
  1 23 animals due to disease or injury.  The bill provides that when
  1 24 such a deer is taken, the person shall immediately notify a
  1 25 conservation officer who shall examine the deer.  The bill
  1 26 provides that the deer shall be tagged and the tag shall
  1 27 contain a notation by the conservation officer if the
  1 28 conservation officer determines that the deer is unusable.
  1 29 The bill provides that the conservation officer is responsible
  1 30 for making a determination that a deer is unusable and for the
  1 31 issuance of an additional tag that can be used to take another
  1 32 deer.
