  1  1    Section 1.  DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION == GOVERNOR'S
  1  2 ACHIEVEMENT GAP INITIATIVE.  There is appropriated from the
  1  3 general fund of the state to the department of education for
  1  4 the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2004, and ending June 30,
  1  5 2005, the following amount, or so much thereof as is
  1  6 necessary, to be used for the purposes designated:
  1  7    For purposes of carrying out the governor's achievement gap
  1  8 initiative recommended by the governor's task force on African
  1  9 American student achievement:
  1 10 .................................................. $    555,000
  1 11    Funds appropriated in this section shall be used to
  1 12 implement the task force's highest priority recommendations.
  1 13 Priority shall be given to the recommendations that are
  1 14 research=based and have the highest probability of improving
  1 15 student achievement.
  1 16                           EXPLANATION
  1 17    This bill appropriates moneys from the general fund of the
  1 18 state to the department of education for FY 2004=2005 for
  1 19 purposes of carrying out the governor's achievement gap
  1 20 initiative recommended by the governor's task force on African
  1 21 American student achievement.  The bill directs that the
  1 22 moneys be used to implement the task force's highest priority
  1 23 recommendations, and give priority to the recommendations that
  1 24 are research=based and have the highest probability of
  1 25 improving student achievement.
