  1 An Act relating to the operation of bingo occasions within a
  2    structure or building.
  3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 99B.7, subsection 1, paragraph c,
  1  2 unnumbered paragraph 1, Code Supplement 2003, is amended to
  1  3 read as follows:
  1  4    Cash or merchandise prizes may be awarded in the game of
  1  5 bingo and, except as otherwise provided in this paragraph,
  1  6 shall not exceed one hundred dollars.  Merchandise prizes may
  1  7 be awarded in the game of bingo, but the actual retail value
  1  8 of the prize, or if the prize consists of more than one item,
  1  9 unit or part, the aggregate retail value of all items, units
  1 10 or parts, shall not exceed the maximum provided by this
  1 11 paragraph.  A jackpot bingo game may be conducted once during
  1 12 any twenty=four hour twenty=four=hour period in which the
  1 13 prize may begin at not more than three hundred dollars in cash
  1 14 or actual retail value of merchandise prizes and may be
  1 15 increased by not more than one hundred dollars after each
  1 16 bingo occasion.  However, the cost of play in a jackpot bingo
  1 17 game shall not be increased and the jackpot shall not amount
  1 18 to more than eight hundred dollars in cash or actual retail
  1 19 value of merchandise prizes.  A jackpot bingo game is not
  1 20 prohibited by paragraph "h".  A bingo occasion shall not last
  1 21 for longer than four consecutive hours.  A qualified
  1 22 organization shall not hold more than fourteen bingo occasions
  1 23 per month.  Bingo occasions held under a limited license shall
  1 24 not be counted in determining whether a qualified organization
  1 25 has conducted more than fourteen bingo occasions per month,
  1 26 nor shall bingo occasions held under a limited license be
  1 27 limited to four consecutive hours.  With the exception of a
  1 28 limited license bingo, no more than three bingo occasions per
  1 29 week shall be held within a structure or building by a
  1 30 licensee and only one person licensed to conduct games under
  1 31 this section may hold bingo occasions within a structure or
  1 32 building at one time.  A licensed qualified organization shall
  1 33 not conduct free games.
  1 34                           EXPLANATION
  1 35    This bill permits more than one licensee to conduct three
  2  1 or more bingo occasions per week within a particular structure
  2  2 or building if the bingo occasions are not held at the same
  2  3 time as another licensee.  Under current law, except for a
  2  4 limited license or for qualified senior centers, no more than
  2  5 three bingo occasions per week can be held within a structure
  2  6 or building and only one person licensed to conduct bingo can
  2  7 hold bingo occasions within that structure.
