  1  1    Section 1.  Section 249A.4, subsection 7, unnumbered
  1  2 paragraph 2, Code Supplement 2003, is amended to read as
  1  3 follows:
  1  4    Advanced registered nurse practitioners licensed pursuant
  1  5 to chapter 152 and physician assistants licensed pursuant to
  1  6 chapter 148C shall be regarded as approved providers of health
  1  7 care services, including primary care, for purposes of managed
  1  8 care or prepaid services contracts under the medical
  1  9 assistance program.  This paragraph shall not be construed to
  1 10 expand the scope of practice of an advanced registered nurse
  1 11 practitioner pursuant to chapter 152 or a physician assistant
  1 12 pursuant to chapter 148C.
  1 13                           EXPLANATION
  1 14    This bill provides that physician assistants licensed
  1 15 pursuant to Code chapter 148C shall be regarded as approved
  1 16 providers of health care services, including primary care, for
  1 17 purposes of managed care or prepaid services contracts under
  1 18 the medical assistance program.
