Section 99B.7, subsection 1, paragraph d, 1 2 unnumbered paragraph 1, Code Supplement 2003, is amended to 1 3 read as follows: 1 4 Cash prizes shall not be awarded in games other than bingo 1 5 and raffles. The value of a prize shall not exceed ten 1 6 thousand dollars and merchandise prizes shall not be 1 7 repurchased. If a prize consists of more than one item, unit, 1 8 or part, the aggregate value of all items, units, or parts 1 9 shall not exceed ten thousand dollars. However, one raffle 1 10 may be conducted per calendar year at which real property or 1 11 one or more merchandise prizes having a combined value of more 1 12 than ten thousand dollars may be awarded or, if the licensee 1 13 is a public or nonpublic school accredited under section 1 14 256.11, a cash prize of more than ten thousand dollars may be 1 15 awarded. If a public or nonpublic school accredited under 1 16 section 256.11 conducts an annual raffle at which a cash prize 1 17 of more than ten thousand dollars may be awarded, the proceeds 1 18 from the raffle shall be used for an educational purpose. 1 19 EXPLANATION 1 20 This bill allows a public or nonpublic school to conduct 1 21 one annual raffle at which a cash prize of more than $10,000 1 22 may be awarded if the proceeds go for an educational purpose. 1 23 Under current law, one annual raffle can result in an award of 1 24 real property or merchandise having a value of more than 1 25 $10,000 without a provision specifically authorizing schools, 1 26 or any other licensee, to award a cash prize. 1 27 LSB 6158HH 80 1 28 ec/sh/8 1 29 1 30 1 31 1 32 1 33 1 34 1 35
