1 1 Section 1. Section 262.9, subsection 18, Code Supplement
1 2 2003, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 18. Not less than thirty days prior to action by the board
1 4 on any proposal to increase tuition, fees, or charges at one
1 5 or more of the institutions of higher education under its
1 6 control, send written notification of the amount of the
1 7 proposed increase including a copy of the proposed tuition
1 8 increase docket memorandum prepared for its consideration to
1 9 the presiding officers of the student government organization
1 10 of the affected institutions. The final decision on an
1 11 increase in tuition or mandatory fees charged to all students
1 12 at an institution for a fiscal year shall be made no later
1 13 than the regular meeting held in November March of the
1 14 preceding fiscal year and shall be reflected in a final docket
1 15 memorandum that states the estimated total cost of attending
1 16 each of the institutions of higher education under the board's
1 17 control. The regular meeting held in November March shall be
1 18 held in Ames, Cedar Falls, or Iowa City and shall not be held
1 19 during the period in which classes have been suspended for
1 20 Thanksgiving vacation spring break.
1 21 EXPLANATION
1 22 This bill extends from November to March the regular
1 23 meeting date by which the state board of regents must make its
1 24 final decision on an increase in tuition or mandatory fees
1 25 charged to all students at an institution of higher education
1 26 under its control. The bill prohibits the board from holding
1 27 the meeting during spring break.
