  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  18A.6B  STATE CAPITOL == OPEN TO
  1  2 PUBLIC.
  1  3    The state capitol shall be open to the public from seven
  1  4 a.m. to six p.m., on all days other than state holidays
  1  5 enumerated in section 1C.2.  For purposes of this section,
  1  6 "open to the public" means that members of the public, or
  1  7 their belongings, shall not be subject to search or to
  1  8 scanning by metal detectors or x=ray machines as a condition
  1  9 of entering the state capitol.  This section shall not
  1 10 prohibit a person entering the state capitol or within the
  1 11 state capitol from being subject to an otherwise lawful
  1 12 search.
  1 13                           EXPLANATION
  1 14    This bill provides that the state capitol shall be open to
  1 15 the public seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., except on
  1 16 state holidays.  The bill defines "open to the public" to mean
  1 17 that members of the public and their belongings shall not be
  1 18 subject to search or scanning by metal detectors or x=ray
  1 19 machines as a condition of entering the state capitol.
