Section 69.16, unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 1 2 2003, is amended to read as follows: 1 3 All appointive boards, commissions, and councils of the 1 4 state established by the Code if not otherwise provided by law 1 5 shall be bipartisan in their composition. No person shall be 1 6 appointed or reappointed to any board, commission, or council 1 7 established by the Code if the effect of that appointment or 1 8 reappointment would cause the number of members of the board, 1 9 commission, or council belonging to one political party to be 1 10 greater thanone=half the membershipthe number of members of 1 11 the board, commission, or councilplus onebelonging to 1 12 another political party. 1 13 EXPLANATION 1 14 This bill concerns the determination of partisan balance 1 15 for appointive boards, commissions, and councils. The bill 1 16 provides that the number of members of an appointive board, 1 17 commission, or council of one political party shall not be 1 18 greater than the number of members from another political 1 19 party.
