  1  1    Section 1.  Section 321.1, Code Supplement 2003, is amended
  1  2 by adding the following new subsection:
  1  3    NEW SUBSECTION.  31A.  "Hybrid vehicle" means as defined in
  1  4 15 U.S.C. } 2502.
  1  5    Sec. 2.  NEW SECTION.  321.118  HYBRID VEHICLES.
  1  6    The annual registration fee for a hybrid vehicle is sixty=
  1  7 five dollars.  The fee is reduced to fifty=five dollars for a
  1  8 vehicle that is more than ten model years old, forty=five
  1  9 dollars for a vehicle more than thirteen model years old, and
  1 10 thirty=five dollars for a vehicle more than fifteen model
  1 11 years old.
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill establishes a motor vehicle registration fee of
  1 14 $65 for hybrid vehicles, which are defined as vehicles
  1 15 propelled by a combination of an electric motor and an
  1 16 internal combustion engine.  The annual fee is reduced to $55
  1 17 for vehicles over 10 model years old, $45 for vehicles more
  1 18 than 13 model years old, and $35 for vehicles more than 15
  1 19 model years old.  This fee schedule mirrors the flat fee
  1 20 currently charged for pickup trucks.
