  1  1    Section 1.  Section 321.306, Code 2003, is amended by
  1  2 adding the following new unnumbered paragraph:
  1  3    NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH.  A shared center lane that is
  1  4 designated for use by left=turning vehicles traveling in both
  1  5 directions, which is marked on each side with solid yellow
  1  6 lines and dashed yellow lines, may not be used for any purpose
  1  7 other than turning left, or for making a U=turn when
  1  8 permitted.  A vehicle entering the roadway shall not turn into
  1  9 such a shared center lane for the purpose of merging into
  1 10 traffic, but shall instead turn into the nearest lane to the
  1 11 right of the center lane.
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill prohibits the use of a shared center traffic
  1 14 lane, designated for use by left=turning vehicles traveling
  1 15 from both directions, for any purpose other than making a left
  1 16 turn, or a U=turn when permitted.  A vehicle entering the
  1 17 roadway may not use the shared center lane for the purpose of
  1 18 merging into traffic.  A violator is subject to a scheduled
  1 19 fine of $35.
