House Concurrent Resolution 114 PAG LIN 1 1 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. ___ 1 2 BY SHOULTZ, MASCHER, EICHHORN, and ROBERTS 1 3 (COMPANION TO LSB 5802SS BY QUIRMBACH) 1 4 A Concurrent Resolution memorializing Stephen Garst 1 5 of Coon Rapids, Iowa. 1 6 WHEREAS, Stephen Garst of Coon Rapids, Iowa, passed 1 7 away on Saturday, January 10, 2004; and 1 8 WHEREAS, Stephen Garst served Coon Rapids, Carroll 1 9 County, and the State of Iowa in a wide variety of 1 10 positions of public service and trust and made many 1 11 lasting contributions to the quality of life in his 1 12 community and state; and 1 13 WHEREAS, Stephen Garst was a farmer and business 1 14 leader prominent in developing and modernizing 1 15 agriculture, the core of the Iowa economy; and 1 16 WHEREAS, Stephen Garst was an energetic advocate at 1 17 the national and international levels for advancing 1 18 agricultural productivity, the key to reducing hunger 1 19 worldwide, and generously shared his time and 1 20 expertise with thousands; and 1 21 WHEREAS, Stephen Garst loved the out=of=doors and 1 22 was an avid hunter and tireless advocate for 1 23 conservation and the environment, having served for 1 24 more than 40 years on the Carroll County Conservation 1 25 Board and having received numerous awards and honors 1 26 for his work in preserving the natural heritage of 1 27 Iowa and creating outdoor recreational opportunities; 1 28 and 1 29 WHEREAS, Stephen Garst was a champion of civil 1 30 liberties, a strong advocate of women's rights, and a 2 1 defender of the Bill of Rights and constitutional 2 2 guarantees for all Americans; NOW THEREFORE, 2 3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE 2 4 SENATE CONCURRING, That the State of Iowa recognize, 2 5 honor, and celebrate the life and tremendous 2 6 accomplishment of Stephen Garst of Coon Rapids and 2 7 offer its sincere condolences to his wife, Mary, and 2 8 all of their family. 2 9 LSB 5802HH 80 2 10 sc/pj/5
