House Concurrent Resolution 112 PAG LIN 1 1 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 1 2 BY THOMAS, GRANZOW, FALLON, GREIMANN, 1 3 CHAMBERS, LUKAN, HUTTER, JONES, D. OLSON, 1 4 SWAIM, MERTZ, and FOEGE 1 5 A Concurrent Resolution urging the United States 1 6 Congress to appropriate funding for the federal 1 7 Historic Preservation Fund and the Historic Barn 1 8 Preservation Act. 1 9 WHEREAS, historic preservation provides 1 10 opportunities to rapidly employ persons in diverse 1 11 areas of the economy, revitalize neighborhoods, 1 12 communities, and rural areas, entice nationwide 1 13 private capital investment, and foster heritage 1 14 tourism; and 1 15 WHEREAS, the State Historical Society of Iowa 1 16 implements the National Preservation Program in Iowa 1 17 with moneys provided by the federal Historic 1 18 Preservation Fund; and 1 19 WHEREAS, the federal Historic Preservation Fund is 1 20 the principal source of financing for states to 1 21 provide economic stimulus, streamline review 1 22 processes, provide local government grants, preserve 1 23 American initiatives, and market heritage tourism 1 24 through historic preservation; and 1 25 WHEREAS, historic barns are becoming national 1 26 treasures and rehabilitating and repairing historic 1 27 barns as necessary, to preserve the barns' 1 28 functionality and to preserve the rural landscape, 1 29 provides benefits to farmers, as well as to the 1 30 communities and economic vitality of the areas in 2 1 which the barns are located; and 2 2 WHEREAS, Congress acted in 2002 to establish a 2 3 Historic Barn Preservation Program; NOW THEREFORE, 2 4 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE 2 5 SENATE CONCURRING, That the Iowa General Assembly 2 6 strongly urges the appropriations committees of the 2 7 Unites States Senate and House of Representatives to 2 8 annually appropriate $50 million to the federal 2 9 Historic Preservation Fund for the state historic 2 10 preservation offices and to annually appropriate $25 2 11 million for federal fiscal years 2003=2004 through 2 12 2005=2006 to implement the federal Historic Barn 2 13 Preservation Program; and 2 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this 2 15 resolution be sent by the Chief Clerk of the House of 2 16 Representatives to the Honorable Senator Charles E. 2 17 Grassley and the Honorable Senator Tom Harkin, 2 18 together with Iowa's congressional delegation in the 2 19 House of Representatives; and 2 20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this 2 21 resolution be sent to the Honorable Senator Ted 2 22 Stevens, Chair of the United States Senate Committee 2 23 on Appropriations, and the Honorable Congressman C.
