Senate File 2251 - Enrolled PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE FILE 2251 1 2 1 3 AN ACT 1 4 RELATING TO STUDENT EYE CARE AND INCLUDING AN APPLICABILITY 1 5 DATE PROVISION. 1 6 1 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: 1 8 1 9 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 280.7A STUDENT EYE CARE. 1 10 1. A parent or guardian who registers a child for 1 11 kindergarten or a preschool program shall be given a student 1 12 vision card provided by the Iowa optometric association and as 1 13 approved by the department of education with a goal of every 1 14 child receiving an eye examination by age seven, as needed. 1 15 2. School districts may encourage a student to receive an 1 16 eye examination by a licensed ophthalmologist or optometrist 1 17 prior to the student receiving special education services 1 18 pursuant to chapter 256B. The eye examination is not a 1 19 requirement for a student to receive special education 1 20 services. A parent or guardian shall be responsible for 1 21 ensuring that a student receives an eye examination pursuant 1 22 to this section. 1 23 3. Area education agencies, pursuant to section 273.3, 1 24 shall make every effort to provide, in collaboration with 1 25 local community organizations, vision screening services to 1 26 children ages two through four. 1 27 Sec. 2.
