Senate File 2230 - Enrolled PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE FILE 2230 1 2 1 3 AN ACT 1 4 AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF SPECIAL NONRESIDENT TURKEY AND DEER 1 5 HUNTING LICENSES TO CERTAIN PERSONS WHO HAVE SEVERE PHYSICAL 1 6 DISABILITIES OR A TERMINAL ILLNESS. 1 7 1 8 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: 1 9 1 10 Section 1. Section 483A.24, Code Supplement 2007, is 1 11 amended by adding the following new subsection: 1 12 NEW SUBSECTION. 9A. The commission shall issue a special 1 13 turkey hunting license or any sex deer hunting license to a 1 14 nonresident twenty=one years of age or younger who the 1 15 commission finds has a severe physical disability or has been 1 16 diagnosed with a terminal illness. The licenses shall be 1 17 issued as follows: 1 18 a. The commission may prepare an application to be used by 1 19 the person requesting the special license, which requires that 1 20 the person's attending physician sign the form declaring that 1 21 the person has a severe physical disability or has been 1 22 diagnosed with a terminal illness and is eligible for the 1 23 special license. 1 24 b. The licenses provided pursuant to this subsection shall 1 25 be in addition to the number of nonresident turkey hunting 1 26 licenses authorized pursuant to section 483A.7 and nonresident 1 27 deer hunting licenses authorized pursuant to section 483A.8. 1 28 c. The turkey hunting licenses are valid in all zones open 1 29 to turkey hunting and shall be available for issuance and use 1 30 during any turkey hunting season. The deer hunting licenses 1 31 are valid in all zones open to deer hunting and shall be 1 32 available for issuance and use during any deer hunting season. 1 33 d. A nonresident who receives a special license pursuant 1 34 to this subsection shall purchase a hunting license and the 1 35 applicable nonresident turkey or deer hunting license, and pay 2 1 the wildlife habitat fee, but is not required to complete the 2 2 hunter safety and ethics education course if the person is 2 3 accompanied and aided by a person who is at least eighteen 2 4 years of age. The accompanying person must be qualified to 2 5 hunt and have a hunting license. During the hunt, the 2 6 accompanying adult must be within arm's reach of the 2 7 nonresident licensee. 2 8 e.
