  1  4 RELATING TO THE ISSUANCE OF FREE DEER AND WILD TURKEY HUNTING
  1  5    LICENSES TO CERTAIN LANDOWNERS AND OTHER PERSONS.

  1  7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  9    Section 1.  Section 483A.24, subsection 2, paragraph a,
  1 10 subparagraph (2), Code 2003, is amended to read as follows:
  1 11    (2)  "Farm unit" means all parcels of land in tracts of ten
  1 12 acres or more, not necessarily contiguous, which are operated
  1 13 as a unit for agricultural purposes and which are under the
  1 14 lawful control of the owner or tenant.
  1 15    Sec. 2.  Section 483A.24, subsection 2, paragraphs b and c,
  1 16 Code 2003, are amended to read as follows:
  1 17    b.  Upon written application on forms furnished by the
  1 18 department, the department shall issue annually without fee
  1 19 one any sex deer or license, one antlerless deer license, and
  1 20 one wild turkey license, or both, to the owner of a farm unit
  1 21 or to a member of the owner's family, but not to both, and to
  1 22 the tenant or to a member of the tenant's family, but not to
  1 23 both.  The deer hunting license licenses or wild turkey
  1 24 hunting license issued shall be valid only on the farm unit
  1 25 for which an applicant qualifies pursuant to this subsection
  1 26 and shall be equivalent to the least restrictive license
  1 27 issued under section 481A.38.  The owner or the tenant need
  1 28 not reside on the farm unit to qualify for a free license to
  1 29 hunt on that farm unit.  A free deer hunting license issued
  1 30 pursuant to this subsection shall be valid during all shotgun
  1 31 deer seasons.
  1 32    c.  In addition to the free deer hunting license licenses
  1 33 received, an owner of a farm unit or a member of the owner's
  1 34 family and the tenant or a member of the tenant's family may
  1 35 purchase a deer hunting license for any option offered to
  2  1 paying deer hunting licensees.  An owner of a farm unit or a
  2  2 member of the owner's family and the tenant or a member of the
  2  3 tenant's family may also purchase two additional antlerless
  2  4 deer hunting licenses which are valid only on the farm unit
  2  5 for a fee of ten dollars each.
  2  6    Sec. 3.  Section 483A.24, subsection 2, paragraph d, Code
  2  7 2003, is amended to read as follows:
  2  8    d.  If the commission establishes a deer hunting season to
  2  9 occur in the first quarter of a calendar year that is separate
  2 10 from a deer hunting season that continues from the last
  2 11 quarter of the preceding calendar year, each owner and each
  2 12 tenant of a farm unit located within a zone where a deer
  2 13 hunting season is established, upon application, shall be
  2 14 issued a one free deer hunting license for each of the two
  2 15 first calendar quarters quarter of the calendar year, and two
  2 16 free deer hunting licenses for the last quarter of the
  2 17 preceding calendar year, one of which shall be an antlerless
  2 18 only deer hunting license.  Each license is valid only for
  2 19 hunting on the farm unit of the owner and tenant.
