<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><slim:Document xmlns:slim="urn:legix:slim" xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:atipl="http://www.arbortext.com/namespace/PageLayout" class="codeChapter" id="chp708A" name="708A"><slim:About class="header"><slim:Property type="string" name="version"/></slim:About><slim:TOC><slim:Item idref="sec708A.1" title="708A.1   Definitions."/><slim:Item idref="sec708A.2" title="708A.2   Terrorism."/><slim:Item idref="sec708A.3" title="708A.3   Value for purposes of material support and resources."/><slim:Item idref="sec708A.4" title="708A.4   Soliciting or providing material support or resources for terrorism."/><slim:Item idref="sec708A.5" title="708A.5   Threat of terrorism."/><slim:Item idref="sec708A.6" title="708A.6   Obstruction of terrorism prosecution."/></slim:TOC><slim:Body><slim:Level class="codeChapter" id="chp708A"><slim:Heading class="heading"><xhtml:span class="identifier">708A</xhtml:span><xhtml:span class="headnote">TERRORISM</xhtml:span></slim:Heading><slim:Section class="codeSection" id="sec708A.1"><xhtml:div class="heading"><xhtml:span class="identifier">708A.1</xhtml:span><xhtml:span class="headnote">Definitions.</xhtml:span></xhtml:div><xhtml:p class="para">For purposes of <xhtml:span class="iowaCodeRef">this chapter</xhtml:span>:</xhtml:p><xhtml:div class="subsection"><xhtml:div class="heading"><xhtml:span class="identifier">1</xhtml:span></xhtml:div><xhtml:p class="para"><xhtml:span class="term">“Material support or resources”</xhtml:span> means knowingly assisting or providing money, financial securities, financial services, lodging, training, safe houses, false documentation or identification, communication equipment, facilities, weapons, lethal substances, explosives, personnel, transportation, and other physical assets, except medicine or religious materials, for the purpose of assisting a person in the commission of an act of terrorism.</xhtml:p></xhtml:div><xhtml:div class="subsection"><xhtml:div class="heading"><xhtml:span class="identifier">2</xhtml:span></xhtml:div><xhtml:p class="para"><xhtml:span class="term">“Renders criminal assistance”</xhtml:span> means a person who, with intent to prevent the apprehension or obstruct the prosecution or defense of any person, knowingly does any of the following acts:</xhtml:p><xhtml:div class="letteredPara"><xhtml:div class="heading"><xhtml:span class="identifier">a</xhtml:span></xhtml:div><xhtml:p class="para">Destroys, alters, conceals, or disguises physical evidence which would be admissible in the trial of another for a public offense, or makes available false evidence or furnishes false information with the intent that it be used in the trial of that case.</xhtml:p></xhtml:div><xhtml:div class="letteredPara"><xhtml:div class="heading"><xhtml:span class="identifier">b</xhtml:span></xhtml:div><xhtml:p class="para">Induces a witness having knowledge material to the subject at issue to leave the state or hide, or to fail to appear when subpoenaed.</xhtml:p></xhtml:div><xhtml:div class="letteredPara"><xhtml:div class="heading"><xhtml:span class="identifier">c</xhtml:span></xhtml:div><xhtml:p class="para">Provides concealment or warns of impending apprehension to any person being sought for the subject at issue.</xhtml:p></xhtml:div><xhtml:div class="letteredPara"><xhtml:div class="heading"><xhtml:span class="identifier">d</xhtml:span></xhtml:div><xhtml:p class="para">Provides a weapon, disguise, transportation, or money to any person being sought for the subject at issue.</xhtml:p></xhtml:div><xhtml:div class="letteredPara"><xhtml:div class="heading"><xhtml:span class="identifier">e</xhtml:span></xhtml:div><xhtml:p class="para">Prevents or obstructs, by means of force, intimidation, or deception, another person from performing an act which might aid in the apprehension or prosecution or defense of any person.</xhtml:p></xhtml:div></xhtml:div><xhtml:div class="subsection"><xhtml:div class="heading"><xhtml:span class="identifier">3</xhtml:span></xhtml:div><xhtml:p class="para"><xhtml:span class="term">“Terrorism”</xhtml:span> means an act intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, or to influence the policy of a unit of government by intimidation or coercion, or to affect the conduct of a unit of government, by shooting, throwing, launching, discharging, or otherwise using a dangerous weapon at, into, or in a building, vehicle, airplane, railroad engine, railroad car, or boat, occupied by another person, or within an assembly of people. The terms <xhtml:span class="i">“intimidate”</xhtml:span>, <xhtml:span class="i">“coerce”</xhtml:span>, <xhtml:span class="i">“intimidation”</xhtml:span>, and <xhtml:span class="i">“coercion”</xhtml:span>, as used in this definition, are not to be construed to prohibit picketing, public demonstrations, and similar forms of expressing ideas or views regarding legitimate matters of public interest protected by the United States and Iowa Constitutions.</xhtml:p></xhtml:div><xhtml:div class="history"><xhtml:div class="historyItem"><xhtml:p class="p"><xhtml:span class="iowaActsRef">2002 Acts, ch 1075, §2</xhtml:span></xhtml:p></xhtml:div></xhtml:div></slim:Section><slim:Section class="codeSection" id="sec708A.2"><xhtml:div class="heading"><xhtml:span class="identifier">708A.2</xhtml:span><xhtml:span class="headnote">Terrorism.</xhtml:span></xhtml:div><xhtml:p class="para">A person who commits or attempts to commit an act of terrorism commits a class “B” felony.
