class="para">Any appointive or elective officer, except such as may be removed only by impeachment, holding any public office in the state or in any division or municipality thereof, may be removed from office by the district court for any of the following reasons:</xhtml:p><xhtml:div class="subsection"><xhtml:div class="heading"><xhtml:span class="identifier">1</xhtml:span></xhtml:div><xhtml:p The accused shall be named as defendant, and the petition, unless filed by the attorney general, shall be verified. The petition shall state the charges against the accused and may be amended as in ordinary actions, and shall be filed in the office of the clerk of the district court of the county having jurisdiction.
