Page 1, after line 1 by inserting: 3 < 1. Page 1, before line 1 by inserting: 4 < Section 1. Section 256.7, Code 2026, is amended by adding 5 the following new subsection: 6 NEW SUBSECTION . 36. Adopt rules allowing students 7 enrolled in grade eight to participate in any extracurricular 8 interscholastic athletic contest or competition that is 9 provided by a school district, nonpublic school, or charter 10 school on the same basis as students who are enrolled in grades 11 nine through twelve. >> 12 2. The state board of education 14 shall adopt emergency rules under section 17A.4, subsection 3, 15 and section 17A.5, subsection 2, paragraph “b”, to implement 16 the section of this Act amending section 256.7. The rules 17 shall be effective no later than August 1, 2026.
