House Amendment to Senate File 2219 S-5165 Amend Senate File 2219, as amended, passed, and reprinted by 1 the Senate, as follows: 2 1. By striking everything after the enacting clause and 3 inserting: 4 < Section 1. Section 256E.7, subsection 2, Code 2026, is 5 amended by adding the following new paragraph: 6 NEW PARAGRAPH . 0w. Be subject to and comply with the 7 requirements of section 299.1, subsection 5, relating 8 to absences from school because of involvement in a 9 school-sponsored activity, program, competition, or project in 10 the same manner as a school district. 11 Sec. 2. Section 299.1, Code 2026, is amended by adding the 12 following new subsection: 13 NEW SUBSECTION . 5. The board of directors of each public 14 school district and the governing body of each accredited 15 nonpublic school shall adopt a policy that requires the school 16 district or the accredited nonpublic school to grant a student 17 an exempt absence when the student is absent from school 18 because of the student’s involvement in a school-sponsored 19 activity, program, competition, or project. The policy shall 20 also require the school district or accredited nonpublic school 21 to allow a student who is absent from school because of the 22 student’s involvement in a school-sponsored activity, program, 23 competition, or project to make up any classwork the student 24 was not able to complete as a result of the absence. > 25 2.
