Prior to employing a chaplain, or engaging a 4 chaplain to serve without compensation or remuneration, the 5 board of directors of each school district must provide the 6 board of educational examiners with the information needed to 7 conduct a thorough background investigation of the chaplain and 8 review the report provided to the school district by the board 9 of educational examiners pursuant to paragraph “c” . 10 b. After receiving the information described in paragraph 11 “a” , the board of educational examiners shall do all of the 12 following: 13 (1) Initiate a state criminal history record check of the 14 chaplain through the division of criminal investigation of the 15 department of public safety. 16 (2) Submit the chaplain’s fingerprints to the division 17 of criminal investigation of the department of public safety 18 for submission to the federal bureau of investigation for a 19 national criminal history record check. 20 (3) Review all of the following for information related to 21 the chaplain: 22 (a) The information in the Iowa court information system 23 available to the general public. 24 (b) The sex offender registry information under section 25 692A.121 available to the general public. 26 (c) The central registry for child abuse information 27 established under section 235A.14. 28 (d) The central registry for dependent adult abuse 29 information established under section 235B.5. 30 c. After completing the investigation described in paragraph 31 “b” , the board of educational examiners shall prepare a report 32 containing the results of the investigation and provide the 33 report to the board of directors of the school district. > 34 -1- HF 884.1729 (2) 91 jda/jh 1/ 2 #1.
