Section 262.9, Code 2025, is amended by adding 4 the following new subsection: 5 NEW SUBSECTION . 39. a. Adopt a policy requiring that not 6 less than eighty percent of the students who are accepted at 7 the college of medicine in the doctor of medicine program, 8 and who are accepted at the college of dentistry at the state 9 university of Iowa or persons who were, prior to applying to 10 such college, enrolled in an eligible postsecondary institution 11 as defined in section 261E.2. The policy shall require that 12 admission remains based on merit and that admission standards 13 are not lowered. 14 b. The state board of regents shall not impose a penalty for 15 an institution’s failure to comply with the adopted policy. 16 c. This subsection shall not create a private cause of 17 action against the state board of regents, the state university 18 of Iowa, or the university of Iowa hospitals and clinics for 19 failure to comply with this subsection. > 20 2.
