Section 299.1, subsection 4, paragraph b, Code 3 2025, is amended to read as follows: 4 b. The policy or rules adopted by the board of directors 5 of a public school district pursuant to paragraph “a” must not 6 apply to any child allow for a child to be absent from school 7 for any reason that the board of directors of the public school 8 district determines is reasonable, which includes an absence 9 from school for any of the following reasons : 10 (1) Who The child has completed the requirements for 11 graduation in a public school district or has obtained a high 12 school equivalency diploma under chapter 259A . 13 (2) Who The child is excused for sufficient reason by any 14 court of record or judge. 15 (3) While The child is attending religious services or 16 receiving religious instructions or participating in other 17 religious observances . 18 (4) Who The child is unable to attend school due to 19 legitimate medical reasons , including due to illness or a 20 medical appointment . 21 (5) Who The child has an individualized education program 22 that affects the child’s attendance. 23 (6) Who The child has a plan under section 504 of the 24 federal Rehabilitation Act, 29 U.S.C. §794, that affects the 25 child’s attendance. 26 (7) The child is experiencing a family emergency, including 27 a family medical incident. 28 (8) The child is attending a wedding or a funeral service, 29 including traveling to and from the wedding or funeral service. 30 (9) The child is a military applicant undergoing military 31 entrance processing. 32 (10) The child is engaged in military service. 33 (11) The child is participating in an educational or other 34 opportunity approved by the board of directors of the public 35 -1- SF 277.774 (2) 91 jda/jh 1/ 2 #1.
