Page 17, after line 29 by inserting: 3 < DIVISION ___ 4 STUDENT PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS 5 Sec. ___. Section 256.11, subsection 5, paragraph g, 6 subparagraph (3), Code 2026, is amended to read as follows: 7 (3) A student who is enrolled in a junior reserve officers’ 8 training corps shall not be required to participate in physical 9 education activities under subparagraph (1) or to meet the 10 physical activity requirements of subsection 6 , paragraph “b” , 11 subparagraph (2) (3) , but shall receive one-eighth unit of 12 physical education credit for each semester, or the equivalent, 13 of junior reserve officers’ training corps the student 14 completes. 15 Sec. ___. Section 256.11, subsection 6, paragraph b, Code 16 2026, is amended to read as follows: 17 b. (1) All physically able students in kindergarten through 18 grade five four shall be required to engage in a physical 19 activity for a minimum of thirty forty minutes per school day. 20 (2) All physically able students in grade five shall be 21 required to engage in a physical activity for a minimum of 22 thirty minutes per school day. 23 (2) (3) All physically able students in grades six through 24 twelve shall be required to engage in a physical activity for 25 a minimum of one hundred twenty minutes per week. A student 26 participating in an organized and supervised athletic program 27 or non-school-sponsored extracurricular activity which requires 28 the student to participate in physical activity for a minimum 29 of one hundred twenty minutes per week is exempt from the 30 requirements of this subparagraph. 31 (3) (4) The department shall collaborate with stakeholders 32 on the development of daily physical activity requirements and 33 the development of models that describe ways in which school 34 districts and schools may incorporate the physical activity 35 -1- H 8335.4077 (2) 91 ss/ko 1/ 2 #1.
requirement of this paragraph into the educational program. A 1 school district or accredited nonpublic school shall not reduce 2 instructional time for academic courses in order to meet the 3 requirements of this paragraph. 4 Sec. ___. Section 256.11, subsection 18, Code 2026, is 5 amended to read as follows: 6 18. The board of directors of a school district and the 7 authorities in charge of an accredited nonpublic school shall 8 each establish a policy to award credit toward graduation 9 to a student if the student participates in the legislative 10 page program at the state capitol for a regular session of 11 the general assembly. The student shall be excused from the 12 physical education requirements of subsection 5 , paragraph “g” , 13 subparagraph (1), and is exempt from the physical activity 14 requirements of subsection 6 , paragraph “b” , subparagraph (2) 15 (3) , while participating in the legislative page program. The 16 student must complete the graduation requirements of section 17 256.7, subsection 26 , paragraph “a” , but participation in the 18 legislative page program for a complete regular session of the 19 general assembly shall count as one-half unit of social studies 20 credit required for purposes of section 256.7, subsection 26 , 21 paragraph “a” . > 22 2.
