Section 80B.11D, subsections 1 and 3, Code 2025, 4 are amended to read as follows: 5 1. An individual who is not a certified law enforcement 6 officer may apply for attendance at a short course of study 7 at an approved law enforcement level II academy training 8 program if such individual is sponsored by a law enforcement 9 agency. Such individual may be sponsored if the individual has 10 been hired by a law enforcement agency that either or a law 11 enforcement agency intends to hire or has hired the individual 12 as a law enforcement officer. 13 3. An individual who submits an application pursuant to 14 subsection 1 shall, at a minimum, submit proof of successful 15 completion of a two-year or four-year police science or 16 criminal justice program at an accredited educational 17 institution in this state approved by the academy , and meet the 18 qualifications set forth in section 80B.11H, subsections 1 and 19 3 . > 20 2. A federal law enforcement officer may qualify for 2 reciprocity in this state without completing the level I 3 academy training program if the federal law enforcement officer 4 meets all of the following criteria: 5 a. Has served a minimum of four years as a federal law 6 enforcement officer within three years of submitting an 7 application for reciprocity. 8 b. Has successfully completed accredited federal law 9 enforcement training equivalent to or exceeding the academy’s 10 standards. 11 4. The council shall review the applications and approve 12 qualified applicants for entry into the reciprocity program. 13 If an applicant is not approved for the reciprocity program, 14 the council may consider the applicant for entry into a level 15 II academy training program under section 80B.11D. 16 5. The council shall develop procedures and guidelines for 17 evaluating military police training and equivalency standards. 18 6. The council shall publish an annual report including data 19 on the number of veterans and federal law enforcement officers 20 certified through the reciprocity program and the current 21 certification status of those going through the program. > 22 11.
