Section 321.1, subsection 69, paragraph d, Code 3 2025, is amended to read as follows: 4 d. New or used motor vehicles designed to carry not more 5 than ten persons as passengers, including the driver, or used 6 passenger vans designed to carry not more than twelve fifteen 7 persons as passengers, including the driver, either school 8 owned or privately owned, which are used to transport pupils 9 to activity events in which the pupils are participants or 10 used to transport pupils to their homes in case of illness or 11 other emergency situations. The vehicles operated under the 12 provisions of this paragraph shall be operated by employees of 13 the school district who are specifically approved by the local 14 superintendent of schools for the assignment. 15 Sec. ___. Section 321.373, subsection 3, paragraph c, Code 16 2025, is amended to read as follows: 17 c. The rules shall allow used passenger vans designed to 18 carry twelve fifteen or fewer passengers, including the driver, 19 and weighing ten thousand pounds or less, to be used as school 20 buses if the van does not carry more passengers than there are 21 safety belts or safety harnesses in the van as installed by 22 the manufacturer. The operator of the van shall comply with 23 the qualification, licensing, and instruction requirements set 24 forth in sections 321.375 and 321.376 . > 25 2.
