A pharmacist may, pursuant to statewide protocols 13 developed and approved by the board in consultation with 14 the department of health and human services and consistent 15 with subsection 2, order and administer an immunization or 16 vaccination. Each protocol, as established by rule, may 17 define the immunization or vaccination allowed to be ordered 18 and administered, any training or qualification required to 19 implement the protocol, and any additional requirements deemed 20 appropriate by the board. 21 a. A pharmacist may , pursuant to statewide protocols 22 developed by the board in consultation with the department of 23 health and human services and consistent with subsection 2 , 24 order and administer the following to patients ages eighteen 25 years and older: 26 (1) Opioid antagonists for overdose reversals. 27 (2) Nicotine replacement tobacco cessation products. 28 (3) (1) An immunization or vaccination recommended by 29 the United States centers for disease control and prevention 30 advisory committee on immunization practices in its approved 31 vaccination schedule for adults. 32 (4) (2) An immunization or vaccination recommended by the 33 United States centers for disease control and prevention for 34 international travel. 35 -2- S 3112.2671 (2) 90 ss/ko 2/ 4 #5.
(5) (3) A Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) 1 vaccination in a booster application. 2 (6) (4) Other emergency immunizations or vaccinations in 3 response to a public health emergency. 4 (7) (5) An immunization or vaccination for COVID-19 as 5 defined in section 686D.2 . 6 b. A pharmacist may , pursuant to statewide protocols 7 developed by the board in consultation with the department of 8 health and human services and consistent with subsection 2 , 9 order and administer the following to patients ages six months 10 and older: 11 (1) A vaccine An immunization or immunization vaccination 12 for influenza. 13 (2) Other emergency immunizations or vaccines in response 14 to a public health emergency. 15 c. A pharmacist may, pursuant to statewide protocols 16 developed by the board in consultation with the department 17 of health and human services and consistent with subsection 18 2 , order and administer the final two doses in a course of 19 vaccinations for HPV to patients ages eleven years and older. 20 d. Prior to the ordering and administration of a vaccination 21 an immunization or immunization vaccination authorized by 22 this subsection , pursuant to statewide protocols, a licensed 23 pharmacist shall consult and review the statewide immunization 24 registry or health information network. The board shall 25 adopt rules requiring the reporting of the administration of 26 vaccines and immunizations and vaccinations authorized by this 27 subsection to a patient’s primary health care provider, primary 28 physician, and a statewide immunization registry or health 29 information network. 30 e. A pharmacist may, pursuant to statewide protocols 31 developed by the board in consultation with the department of 32 health and human services and consistent with subsection 2 , 33 order and administer the following to patients ages six years 34 and older: 35 -3- S 3112.2671 (2) 90 ss/ko 3/ 4
