plates.

a.
Upon
application
and
payment
of
the
proper
fees,
the

director
may
issue
Iowa
public
schools
plates
to
the
owner
of
a

motor
vehicle
subject
to
registration
under
section
321.109,

subsection
1,
autocycle,
motor
truck,
motor
home,
multipurpose
9
vehicle,
motorcycle,
trailer,
or
travel
trailer.

b.
Iowa
public
schools
plates
shall
be
designed
by
the
11
department.
The
background
shall
be
red
and
the
plate’s
12
numbers
and
letters
shall
be
white.
The
left
side
of
the
plate
13
shall
depict
a
school
building.
The
phrase
“Don’t
Tread
On
14
Public
Schools”
shall
appear
at
the
bottom
of
the
plate.

c.
The
special
Iowa
public
schools
fee
for
letter-number
16
designated
Iowa
public
schools
plates
is
thirty-five
dollars.
17
An
applicant
may
obtain
personalized
Iowa
public
schools
plates
18
upon
payment
of
the
fee
for
personalized
plates
as
provided
in
19
subsection
5,
which
is
in
addition
to
the
special
Iowa
public
20
schools
fee.
Personalized
plates
authorized
by
this
subsection
21
shall
be
limited
to
no
more
than
five
numerals,
letters,
or
22
combinations
of
numerals
and
letters.
23
d.
The
fees
collected
by
the
director
under
this
subsection
24
shall
be
paid
monthly
to
the
treasurer
of
state
and
deposited
25
in
the
road
use
tax
fund.
The
treasurer
of
state
shall
26
transfer
monthly
from
the
statutory
allocations
fund
created
27
under
section
321.145,
subsection
2,
to
the
general
fund
of
28
the
state
the
amount
of
the
special
fees
collected
in
the
29
previous
month
for
Iowa
public
schools
plates.
Such
moneys
are
30
appropriated
to
the
department
of
education
to
distribute
in
31
the
form
of
grants
to
public
school
teachers
to
purchase
school
32
supplies.
Notwithstanding
section
8.33,
moneys
appropriated
33
under
this
subsection
shall
not
revert
to
the
general
fund
of
34
the
state.

Upon
receipt
of
the
special
registration
plates,
the

applicant
shall
surrender
the
current
registration
plates
to

the
county
treasurer.
The
county
treasurer
shall
validate

the
special
registration
plates
in
the
same
manner
as
regular

registration
plates
are
validated
under
this
section.
The
5
annual
special
Iowa
public
schools
fee
for
letter-number
6
designated
plates
is
ten
dollars
which
shall
be
paid
in
7
addition
to
the
regular
annual
registration
fee.
The
annual
8
fee
for
personalized
Iowa
public
schools
plates
is
five
dollars
9
which
shall
be
paid
in
addition
to
the
annual
special
Iowa
10
public
schools
fee
and
the
regular
annual
registration
fee.

The
annual
special
Iowa
public
schools
fee
shall
be
credited
as
12
provided
under
paragraph
“d”
.

f.
The
department
shall
not
condition
the
issuance
of
Iowa
14
public
schools
plates
on
the
receipt
of
any
number
of
orders

for
Iowa
public
schools
plates.
