mitigation
in
schools
plates.

a.
Upon
application
and
payment
of
the
proper
fees,
the

director
may
issue
radon
mitigation
in
schools
plates
to
the
7
owner
of
a
motor
vehicle
subject
to
registration
under
section
8
321.109,
subsection
1,
autocycle,
motor
truck,
motor
home,
9
multipurpose
vehicle,
motorcycle,
trailer,
or
travel
trailer.

b.
Radon
mitigation
in
schools
plates
shall
be
designed
by
11
the
department.
The
background
shall
be
white
and
the
plate’s
12
numbers
and
letters
shall
be
red.
The
left
side
of
the
plate
13
shall
depict
a
square
with
the
number
“86”
in
the
top
right
and
14
the
periodic
table
of
elements
abbreviation
“Rn”
in
the
middle
15
of
the
square.

c.
The
special
radon
mitigation
in
schools
fee
for
17
letter-number
designated
radon
mitigation
in
schools
plates
18
is
thirty-five
dollars.
An
applicant
may
obtain
personalized
19
radon
mitigation
in
schools
plates
upon
payment
of
the
fee
20
for
personalized
plates
as
provided
in
subsection
5,
which
is
21
in
addition
to
the
special
radon
mitigation
in
schools
fee.
22
Personalized
plates
authorized
by
this
subsection
shall
be
23
limited
to
no
more
than
five
numerals,
letters,
or
combinations
24
of
numerals
and
letters.
25
d.
The
fees
collected
by
the
director
under
this
subsection
26
shall
be
paid
monthly
to
the
treasurer
of
state
and
deposited
27
in
the
road
use
tax
fund.
The
treasurer
of
state
shall
28
transfer
monthly
from
the
statutory
allocations
fund
created
29
under
section
321.145,
subsection
2,
to
the
general
fund
of
the
30
state
the
amount
of
the
special
fees
collected
in
the
previous
31
month
for
radon
mitigation
in
schools
plates.
Such
moneys
are
32
appropriated
to
the
department
of
education
to
distribute
in
33
the
form
of
grants
to
support
radon
detection
and
mitigation
34
in
schools.
Notwithstanding
section
8.33,
moneys
appropriated

this
subsection
shall
not
revert
to
the
general
fund
of

the
state.

Upon
receipt
of
the
special
registration
plates,
the

applicant
shall
surrender
the
current
registration
plates
to

the
county
treasurer.
The
county
treasurer
shall
validate
5
the
special
registration
plates
in
the
same
manner
as
regular
6
registration
plates
are
validated
under
this
section.

The
annual
special
radon
mitigation
in
schools
fee
for
8
letter-number
designated
plates
is
ten
dollars
which
shall
be
9
paid
in
addition
to
the
regular
annual
registration
fee.
The
10
annual
fee
for
personalized
radon
mitigation
in
schools
plates
11
is
five
dollars
which
shall
be
paid
in
addition
to
the
annual
12
special
radon
mitigation
in
schools
fee
and
the
regular
annual
13
registration
fee.
The
annual
special
radon
mitigation
in
14
schools
fee
shall
be
credited
as
provided
under
paragraph
“d”
.

f.
The
department
shall
not
condition
the
issuance
of
radon
16
mitigation
in
schools
plates
on
the
receipt
of
any
number
of
17
orders
for
radon
mitigation
in
schools
plates.
