Ping
pong
plates.

a.
Upon
application
and
payment
of
the
proper
fees,

the
director
may
issue
ping
pong
plates
to
the
owner
of
a
7
motor
vehicle
subject
to
registration
under
section
321.109,
8
subsection
1,
autocycle,
motor
truck,
motor
home,
multipurpose
9
vehicle,
motorcycle,
trailer,
or
travel
trailer.

b.
Ping
pong
plates
shall
be
designed
by
the
department.
11
The
background
shall
be
white
and
the
plate’s
numbers
and
12
letters
shall
be
black.
The
left
side
of
the
plate
shall
13
depict
an
image
of
two
crossed
ping
pong
paddles.
14
c.
The
special
ping
pong
fee
for
letter-number
designated
15
ping
pong
plates
is
thirty-five
dollars.
An
applicant
may
16
obtain
personalized
ping
pong
plates
upon
payment
of
the
fee
17
for
personalized
plates
as
provided
in
subsection
5,
which
is
18
in
addition
to
the
special
ping
pong
fee.
Personalized
plates
19
authorized
by
this
subsection
shall
be
limited
to
no
more
20
than
five
numerals,
letters,
or
combinations
of
numerals
and
21
letters.

d.
The
fees
collected
by
the
director
under
this
subsection
23
shall
be
paid
monthly
to
the
treasurer
of
state
and
deposited
24
in
the
road
use
tax
fund.
The
treasurer
of
state
shall
25
transfer
monthly
from
the
statutory
allocations
fund
created
26
under
section
321.145,
subsection
2,
to
the
general
fund
of
the
27
state
the
amount
of
the
special
fees
collected
in
the
previous
28
month
for
ping
pong
plates.
Such
moneys
are
appropriated
to
29
the
department
of
education
to
distribute
in
the
form
of
grants
30
to
the
amateur
athletics
union
to
support
and
promote
paddle
31
sports.
Notwithstanding
section
8.33,
moneys
appropriated
32
under
this
subsection
shall
not
revert
to
the
general
fund
of
33
the
state.

e.
Upon
receipt
of
the
special
registration
plates,
the

applicant
shall
surrender
the
current
registration
plates
to
1
the
county
treasurer.
The
county
treasurer
shall
validate

the
special
registration
plates
in
the
same
manner
as
regular

registration
plates
are
validated
under
this
section.
The

annual
special
ping
pong
fee
for
letter-number
designated
5
plates
is
ten
dollars
which
shall
be
paid
in
addition
to
6
the
regular
annual
registration
fee.
The
annual
fee
for
7
personalized
ping
pong
plates
is
five
dollars
which
shall
be
8
paid
in
addition
to
the
annual
special
ping
pong
fee
and
the
9
regular
annual
registration
fee.
The
annual
special
ping
pong
10
fee
shall
be
credited
as
provided
under
paragraph
“d”
.

f.
The
department
shall
not
condition
the
issuance
of
ping
12
pong
plates
on
the
receipt
of
any
number
of
orders
for
ping
13
pong
plates.
