Hospitalization
and
medical
attention.

1.
Cities
shall
provide
hospital,
nursing,
and
physical

or
mental
medical
attention
for
the
members
of
the
police
and
13
fire
departments
of
the
cities,
when
injured
while
in
the
14
performance
of
their
duties
as
members
of
such
department,
and
15
shall
continue
to
provide
hospital,
nursing,
and
physical
or
16
mental
medical
attention
for
injuries
or
diseases
incurred
17
while
in
the
performance
of
their
duties
for
members
receiving
18
a
retirement
allowance
under
section
411.6,
subsection
6
.

2.
Cities
may
fund
the
cost
of
the
hospital,
nursing,
and
20
physical
or
mental
medical
attention
required
by
this
section
21
through
the
purchase
of
insurance,
including
by
processing
22
claims
concerning
the
cancer,
heart,
and
lung
or
respiratory
23
issues
described
in
section
411.6,
subsection
5,
paragraph
“c”
,
24
through
their
group
health
insurance
plan
as
long
as
the
member
25
is
not
responsible
for
any
cost-sharing;
by
self-insuring
26
the
obligation
,
;
or
through
payment
of
moneys
into
a
local
27
government
risk
pool
established
for
the
purpose
of
covering
28
the
costs
associated
with
the
requirements
of
this
section
.

However,
the
cost
of
the
hospital,
nursing,
and
physical
or
30
mental
medical
attention
required
by
this
section
shall
not
31
be
funded
through
an
employee-paid
health
insurance
policy
,
32
except
as
otherwise
specified
in
this
subsection
.
Cancers,
33
heart
disease,
and
lung
or
respiratory
diseases
described
in
34
section
411.6,
subsection
5,
paragraph
“c”
,
shall
not
be
deemed

work-related
for
purposes
of
coverage
through
the
employer’s

group
health
insurance
plan.

3.
The
cost
of
the
hospital,
nursing,
and
physical
or
mental

medical
attention
required
by
this
section
shall
be
paid
from

moneys
held
in
a
trust
and
agency
fund
established
pursuant
to
5
section
384.6
,
or
out
of
the
appropriation
for
the
department
6
to
which
the
injured
person
belongs
or
belonged
;
,
provided
7
that
any
amounts
received
by
the
injured
person
from
any
other
8
source
for
such
specific
purposes
,
shall
be
deducted
from
the
9
amount
paid
by
the
city
under
the
provisions
of
this
section
.
