The following amendment to the Constitution of 4 the State of Iowa is proposed: 5 Article I of the Constitution of the State of Iowa is amended 6 by adding the following new section: 7 Sec. 26. To defend and protect unborn children, we the 8 people of the State of Iowa declare that this Constitution does 9 not recognize, grant, or secure a right to abortion or require 10 the public funding of abortion. 11 Sec. 2. REFERRAL AND PUBLICATION. The foregoing amendment 12 to the Constitution of the State of Iowa is referred to the 13 general assembly to be chosen at the next general election for 14 members of the general assembly, and shall be published as 15 provided by law for three consecutive months previous to the 16 date of that election. > 17 2.
