DEER
POPULATION
STUDY.
The
department
of
16
natural
resources
shall
conduct
a
study
to
determine
the
17
estimated
deer
population
in
each
county
in
this
state,
which
18
shall
include
historical
population
numbers
and
population
19
trends
and
be
supported
by
historical
records
dating
back
to
20
1970
if
such
data
is
available,
and
prepare
a
report.
The
21
department
shall
review
and
provide
scientific
data
relating
22
to
the
environmental
impact
of
deer
populations,
including
the
23
impact
to
crops
and
nut,
fruit,
Christmas,
and
lumber
trees.
24
The
department
shall
also
review
the
spread
of
disease
in
25
deer
and
other
cervidae
wildlife
populations.
Additionally,
26
the
report
shall
include
information
on
property
loss,
27
medical
costs,
and
fatalities
due
to
deer-vehicle
accidents
28
and
incidents
of
airport
runway
incursions
by
deer.
In
29
conducting
the
study,
the
department
shall
work
with
relevant
30
representatives
from
the
Iowa
state
university
of
science
and
31
technology
agricultural
extension
service,
the
department
of
32
transportation,
and
the
insurance
division
of
the
department
of
33
commerce.
Expenses
for
conducting
the
study
shall
be
paid
from
34
the
fish
and
wildlife
protection
fund
established
in
section

payments
are
considered
a
proper
use
of
the

funds

assembly
