Section 46.14, subsection 1, Code 2022, is 3 amended to read as follows: 4 1. Each judicial nominating commission shall carefully 5 consider the individuals available for judge, and within sixty 6 days after receiving notice of a vacancy shall certify to the 7 governor and the chief justice the proper number of nominees, 8 in alphabetical order. Such nominees shall be chosen by the 9 affirmative vote of a majority of the full statutory number 10 of commissioners upon the basis of their qualifications and 11 without regard to political affiliation. Nominees shall 12 be members of the bar of Iowa, shall be residents of the 13 state or district of the court to which they are nominated, 14 and shall be of such age that they will be able to serve an 15 initial and one regular term of office to which they are 16 nominated before reaching the age of seventy-two seventy-eight 17 years. Nominees for district judge shall file a certified 18 application form, to be provided by the supreme court, with the 19 chairperson of the district judicial nominating commission. 20 Absence of a commissioner or vacancy upon the commission 21 shall not invalidate a nomination. The chairperson of the 22 commission shall promptly certify the names of the nominees, in 23 alphabetical order, to the governor and the chief justice. 24 Sec. ___. Section 602.1610, subsection 1, paragraphs b and 25 c, Code 2022, are amended to read as follows: 26 b. The mandatory retirement age is seventy-two seventy-eight 27 years for all justices of the supreme court, judges of the 28 court of appeals, and district judges appointed to office after 29 July 1, 1965. 30 c. The mandatory retirement age is seventy-two seventy-eight 31 years for all district associate judges, associate juvenile 32 judges, associate probate judges, and judicial magistrates. 33 Sec. ___. Section 602.6305, subsection 2, Code 2022, is 34 amended to read as follows: 35 -1- HF 2260.3360 (1) 89 cm/jh 1/ 3 #1.

An applicant for full-time 20 associate juvenile judge shall file a certified application 21 form, to be provided by the supreme court, with the chairperson 22 of the county magistrate appointing commission. 23 Sec. ___. Section 633.20C, subsection 2, Code 2022, is 24 amended to read as follows: 25 2. A person does not qualify for appointment to the office 26 of full-time associate probate judge unless the person is at 27 the time of appointment a resident of the county in which the 28 vacancy exists, licensed to practice law in Iowa, and will be 29 able, measured by the person’s age at the time of appointment, 30 to complete the initial term of office prior to reaching 31 age seventy-two seventy-eight .
