Section 96.5, subsection 1, Code 2021, is 4 amended by adding the following new paragraph: 5 NEW PARAGRAPH . k. The individual left employment during 6 a public health emergency for the purpose of taking care of 7 a dependent who was ill or providing for other needs of a 8 dependent, if the dependent’s illness was the subject of the 9 public health emergency or caused by the illness which was the 10 subject of the public health emergency or if the dependent’s 11 other needs resulted from the public health emergency. 12 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act, being deemed of immediate 13 importance, takes effect upon enactment. 14 Sec. 3. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to claims for 15 unemployment benefits beginning on or after the first Sunday 16 after the effective date of this Act. > 17 2.
