The following shall be taught in grades seven and 5 eight: English-language arts; social studies; mathematics; 6 science; health; age-appropriate and research-based human 7 growth and development; career exploration and development; 8 physical education; music; and visual art. Computer science 9 instruction incorporating the standards established under 10 section 256.7, subsection 26 , paragraph “a” , subparagraph (4), 11 shall be offered in at least one grade level commencing with 12 the school year beginning July 1, 2023. Career exploration 13 and development shall be designed so that students are 14 appropriately prepared to create an individual career 15 and academic plan pursuant to section 279.61 , incorporate 16 foundational career and technical education concepts aligned 17 with the six career and technical education service areas 18 as defined in subsection 5 , paragraph “h” , and incorporate 19 relevant twenty-first century skills. The health curriculum 20 shall include age-appropriate and research-based information 21 regarding the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986, 22 42 U.S.C. §300aa-1 to 300aa-34, the occurrence of medical 23 errors, the practices of medical informed consent, the rights 24 and responsibilities of patients under the law, and the 25 characteristics of sexually transmitted diseases, including HPV 26 and the availability of a vaccine to prevent HPV, and acquired 27 immune deficiency syndrome. The state board as part of 28 accreditation standards shall adopt curriculum definitions for 29 implementing the program in grades seven and eight. However, 30 this subsection shall not apply to the teaching of career 31 exploration and development in nonpublic schools. For purposes 32 of this section , “age-appropriate” , “HPV” , and “research-based” 33 mean the same as defined in section 279.50 . 34 Sec. ___. Section 279.50, subsection 9, paragraph c, Code 27 2021, is amended by striking the paragraph. 28 Sec. ___. NEW SECTION . 280.31 Pharmaceutical product 29 advertisements prohibited. 30 1. pharmaceutical product. 1 b. “Pharmaceutical product” means any product that under 2 federal or state law shall not be dispensed except pursuant to 3 a prescription order written by a licensed medical professional 4 and dispensed by a pharmacy as defined in section 155A.3. 5 2.
