Section 261E.3, subsection 1, paragraph e, Code 3 2020, is amended to read as follows: 4 e. (1) The student , except as otherwise provided in this 5 paragraph ā€œeā€ , shall have demonstrated proficiency in reading, 6 mathematics, and science as evidenced by achievement any of the 7 following: 8 (a) Achievement scores on the latest administration of the 9 state assessment for which scores are available and as defined 10 by the department. However, a 11 (b) If the student is receiving competent private 12 instruction under chapter 299A , may demonstrate proficiency 13 by submitting the written recommendation of the licensed 14 practitioner providing supervision to the student in accordance 15 with section 299A.2 ; . Such student may also demonstrate 16 proficiency as evidenced by achievement scores on the annual 17 achievement evaluation required under section 299A.4 ; or may 18 demonstrate proficiency as evidenced by a selection index, 19 which is the sum of the critical reading, mathematics, and 20 writing skills assessments, of at least one hundred forty-one 21 on the preliminary scholastic aptitude test administered by 22 the college board; a composite score of at least twenty-one on 23 the college readiness assessment administered by ACT, inc.; 24 or a sum of the critical reading and mathematics scores of at 25 least nine hundred ninety on the college readiness assessment 26 administered by the college board. 27 (2) (a) If a student is not proficient in one or more of 28 the content areas listed in this paragraph, has not taken the 29 college readiness assessments identified in this paragraph, 30 or has not achieved the scores specified in this paragraph, 31 the subparagraph (1), the student may demonstrate proficiency 32 through measures of college readiness jointly agreed upon by 33 the school board and the eligible postsecondary institution. 34 (b) The school board may establish alternative but 35 -1- HF2443.3847 (2) 88 kh/jh 1/ 2 #1.
