The state or a political subdivision of the state shall 6 not place or cause to be placed on or adjacent to a highway, or 7 maintain or employ the use of, any automated or remote system 8 for traffic law enforcement. 9 2. The department and the department of public safety shall 10 not share or provide information used to impose or collect a 11 civil penalty that results from a violation captured by an 12 automated or remote system for traffic law enforcement through 13 any existing interstate compact that does not specifically 14 allow or require information to be shared or provided for that 15 explicit purpose. 16 3. For purposes of this section, “automated or remote system 17 for traffic law enforcement” means a camera or other optical 18 device designed to work in conjunction with an official traffic 19 control signal or speed measuring device to identify motor 20 vehicles operating in violation of traffic laws, the use of 21 which results in the issuance of citations sent through the 22 mail or by electronic means. > 23 2.
