Use
of
automated
or

remote
systems
for
traffic
law
enforcement
prohibited.

The
state
or
a
political
subdivision
of
the
state
shall
not
11
place
or
cause
to
be
placed
on
or
adjacent
to
a
highway,
or
12
maintain
or
employ
the
use
of,
any
automated
or
remote
system
13
for
traffic
law
enforcement.
For
the
purposes
of
this
section,
14
“automated
or
remote
system
for
traffic
law
enforcement”
means
a
15
camera
or
other
optical
device
designed
to
work
in
conjunction
16
with
an
official
traffic
control
signal
or
speed
measuring
17
device
to
identify
motor
vehicles
operating
in
violation
of
18
traffic
laws,
the
use
of
which
results
in
the
issuance
of
19
citations
sent
through
the
mail
or
by
electronic
means.

Sec.
2.
REMOVAL
OF
AUTOMATED
OR
REMOTE
SYSTEMS
FOR
TRAFFIC

LAW
ENFORCEMENT
——
VALIDITY
OF
PRIOR
CITATIONS.
Prior
to
July
22
1,
2018,
a
local
authority
using
an
automated
or
remote
system
23
for
traffic
law
enforcement
shall
discontinue
using
the
system
24
and
remove
the
system
equipment.
Effective
July
1,
2018,
all
25
local
ordinances
authorizing
the
use
of
automated
or
remote
26
systems
for
traffic
law
enforcement
are
void.
However,
any
27
citation
issued
or
mailed
pursuant
to
such
an
ordinance
prior
28
to
July
1,
2018,
shall
not
be
invalidated
by
the
enactment
of
29
this
Act
and
shall
be
processed
according
to
the
provisions
of
30
law
under
which
the
citation
was
authorized.
31
Sec.
3.
EFFECTIVE
DATE.
The
section
of
this
Act
relating
32
to
the
removal
of
automated
or
remote
systems
for
traffic
law
33
enforcement
and
the
validity
of
prior
citations,
being
deemed
34
of
immediate
importance,
takes
effect
upon
enactment.
