SCHOOL SAFETY STUDY COMMITTEE. 4 1. The director of the department of education shall 5 designate a member of the Iowa school safety alliance to 6 establish a school safety study committee for the purpose of 7 making recommendations for the improvement of safety in schools 8 in this state. 9 2. a. The study committee shall consist of the following 10 members: 11 (1) Four law enforcement officers representing rural and 12 urban areas. 13 (2) Four teachers representing rural and urban areas. 14 (3) Four students representing rural and urban areas. 15 (4) A representative of the Iowa emergency management 16 association. 17 b. The membership of the study committee shall also 18 include four members of the general assembly. The legislative 19 members shall serve as ex officio, nonvoting members of the 20 study committee, with one member to be appointed by each 21 of the following: the majority leader of the senate, the 22 minority leader of the senate, the speaker of the house of 23 representatives, and the minority leader of the house of 24 representatives. 25 c. The study committee shall elect a chairperson from among 26 its voting members. 27 3. The study committee shall meet at least three times. The 28 study committee shall submit its recommendations in a report to 29 the governor and the general assembly no later than December 30 31, 2018. > 31 2.
