learning
online
initiative
is
established

department

agencies

shall
utilize
a
variety
of
content
repositories,
including

those

the
area
education
agencies
and
the
public

broadcasting
division,
in
administering
the
initiative.

Each
participating
school
district
and
accredited

nonpublic
school
shall
submit
its
online
curricula
to
for

review
by
the
department
for
review
area
education
agency
in

which
it
is
located
.
Each
participating
school
district
and
17
accredited
nonpublic
school
shall
include
in
its
comprehensive
18
school
improvement
plan
submitted
pursuant
to
section
256.7,
19
subsection
21
,
a
list
and
description
of
the
online
coursework
20
offered
by
the
district
or
school.

6.
Coursework
offered
under
the
initiative
shall
be
22
rigorous
and
high
quality,
and
the
department
area
education
23
agencies
shall
annually
evaluate
the
quality
of
the
courses
24
and
ensure
that
coursework
is
aligned
with
the
state’s
core
25
curriculum
and
core
content
requirements
and
standards,
as
well
26
as
national
standards
of
quality
for
online
courses
issued
by
27
an
internationally
recognized
association
for
kindergarten
28
through
grade
twelve
online
learning.

8.
The
department
area
education
agencies
shall
establish
30
fees
payable
by
school
districts
and
accredited
nonpublic
31
schools
participating
in
the
initiative.
Fees
collected
32
pursuant
to
this
subsection
are
appropriated
to
the
department
33
which
shall
allocate
the
moneys
to
the
area
education
agencies
34
to
be
used
only
for
the
purpose
of
administering
this
section

shall

so

not
to
exceed
the
budgeted
cost

of
administering
this
section
to
the
extent
not
covered
by
the

moneys
appropriated

Providing
professional

development
necessary

prepare
teachers
to
participate
in
the

initiative
shall
be
considered
a
cost
of
administering
this
5
section
.
Notwithstanding
section
8.33
,
fees
collected
by
the

department
area
education
agencies
that
remain
unencumbered
or
7
unobligated
at
the
close
of
the
fiscal
year
shall
not
revert
8
but
shall
remain
available
for
expenditure
for
the
purpose
of
9
expanding
coursework
offered
under
the
initiative
in
subsequent

fiscal
years.
