The department shall adopt rules pursuant to 11 chapter 17A establishing all of the following: 12 a. A process by which the department may approve 13 the use of cooperative adaptive cruise control or any 14 other automated driving technology by motor trucks 15 to travel in a connected platoon on the highways of 16 this state as part of a research or testing program 17 conducted in this state by an accredited college or 18 university, including but not limited to a process by 19 which a person may obtain a permit from the department 20 to operate such a motor truck. 21 b. Operational and equipment requirements for 22 motor trucks described in paragraph “a” that ensure 23 the safety of the public, which may include but not 24 be limited to the use of signage, the use of escort 25 vehicles, and the designation of certain highways on 26 which the operation of such motor trucks is allowed. 27 2. A person shall not operate a motor truck 28 equipped with cooperative adaptive cruise control 29 or any other automated driving technology to travel 30 in a connected platoon on the highways of this state 31 without a permit issued pursuant to rules adopted under 32 this section or without complying with the safety 33 requirements set forth in rules adopted under this 34 section. 35 -1- HF465.1268 (1) 87 ns/nh 1/ 2 #1. #2.

Sec. ___. Section 321.482A, unnumbered paragraph 1, 1 Code 2017, is amended to read as follows: 2 Notwithstanding section 321.482 , a person who is 3 convicted of operating a motor vehicle in violation 4 of section 321.178, subsection 2 , paragraph “a” , 5 subparagraph (2), section 321.180B, subsection 6 6 , section 321.194, subsection 2 , paragraph “b” , 7 subparagraph (2), section 321.256 , or 321.257 , section 8 321.275, subsection 4 , section 321.276, 321.297 , 9 321.298 , 321.299 , 321.302 , 321.303 , 321.304 , 321.305 , 10 321.306 , 321.307 , or 321.308 , section 321.309, 11 subsection 2 , or section 321.311 , 321.319 , 321.320 , 12 321.321 , 321.322 , 321.323 , 321.324 , 321.324A , 321.327 , 13 321.329 , or 321.333 , or section 321.372, subsection 14 3 , or section 321.447, subsection 2, causing serious 15 injury to or the death of another person may be subject 16 to the following penalties in addition to the penalty 17 provided for a scheduled violation in section 805.8A or 18 any other penalty provided by law: 19 Sec. ___. Section 805.8A, subsection 14, Code 2017, 20 is amended by adding the following new paragraph: 21 NEW PARAGRAPH . m. Automated driving technology 22 violations.
