Section 280.13C, Code 2016, is amended by 12 adding the following new subsection: 13 NEW SUBSECTION . 3A. a. The home team in an 14 extracurricular interscholastic contest in which high 15 school athletic teams participate in a collision sport 16 shall ensure that a contest health care professional 17 is present and available to assess athletic injuries 18 at such contest. 19 b. If an athlete who is a member of a visiting 20 team in an extracurricular interscholastic contest at 21 which a contest health care professional is present 22 and available to assess athletic injuries as provided 23 in this section shows signs, symptoms, or behaviors 24 consistent with a concussion or brain injury, the 25 contest health care professional shall notify the 26 visiting team’s athletic director within forty-eight 27 hours after the contest occurs. 28 c. The department of education, the Iowa high 29 school athletic association, and the Iowa girls 30 high school athletic union shall establish a process 31 whereby an extracurricular interscholastic athletic 32 contest can still take place when a contest health 33 care professional who was scheduled to be present and 34 available as provided in this section is not able to be 35 -1- HF2421.3034 (3) 86 kh/rj 1/ 2 #1. #2. #3.

present and available due to unforeseen circumstances. 1 Sec. ___.
