The core curriculum 16 shall include social studies and twenty-first century 17 learning skills which include but are not limited to 18 civic literacy, health literacy, technology literacy, 19 financial literacy, family life and consumer sciences, 20 and employability skills; and shall address the 21 curricular needs of students in kindergarten through 22 grade twelve in those areas. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION —— CAREER AND 5 TECHNICAL EDUCATION STATUS REPORT. The department 6 of education shall submit a report to the general 7 assembly by January 16, 2017, detailing the progress 8 in implementing the provisions of this division of 9 this Act. The report shall establish a timeline by 10 which the provisions of this division of this Act 11 shall be fully implemented, including but not limited 12 to adoption of rules by the state board of education. 13 The report shall also identify the measures by which 14 regional career and technical education planning 15 partnerships will be evaluated, including the measures 16 to be undertaken by the regional career and technical 17 education planning partnerships to ensure that career 18 and technical education teachers for grades seven 19 through twelve receive high-quality professional 20 development opportunities geared toward updating and 21 enhancing their instructional and technical skills. 22 Sec. ___. CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION 23 IMPLEMENTATION INTERIM STUDY COMMITTEE. The 24 legislative council shall establish an interim study 25 committee composed of members of the senate and the 26 house of representatives to meet during the 2019 27 legislative interim. The committee, in consultation 28 with former members of the secondary career and 29 technical programming task force convened pursuant to 30 2013 Iowa Acts, chapter 141, section 52, shall study 31 administrative rules implementing this division of 32 this Act, including an assessment of the membership 33 of the regional career and technical education 34 planning partnerships to assure that all affected 35 -3- HF2392.3436.S (1) 86 jh 3/ 4 #12.
groups have substantial representation, and any other 1 matters concerning implementation of this division of 2 this Act. The committee shall submit its findings 3 and recommendations to the general assembly for 4 consideration during the 2020 legislative session. > 5 13.
