A member of a governmental 5 body shall keep confidential all information relating 6 to all discussions and action occurring at a closed 7 session which relate to the specific reason announced 8 as justification for the closed session. 9 Sec. ___. Section 21.6, subsection 1, Code 2016, is 10 amended to read as follows: 11 1. The remedies provided by this section against 12 state governmental bodies and members of governmental 13 bodies shall be in addition to those provided by 14 section 17A.19 . Any aggrieved person, taxpayer to, or 15 citizen of, the state of Iowa, or the attorney general 16 or county attorney, may seek judicial enforcement of 17 the requirements of this chapter . Suits to enforce 18 this chapter shall be brought in the district court 19 for the county in which the governmental body has its 20 principal place of business. 21 Sec. ___. Section 21.6, Code 2016, is amended by 22 adding the following new subsection: 23 NEW SUBSECTION . 3A. In addition to any other 24 penalties provided for in this chapter, upon a finding 25 by a preponderance of the evidence that a member of a 26 governmental body has violated section 21.5, subsection 27 3B, a court shall assess the member damages in the 28 amount of not more than one thousand dollars. > 29 3.
