amended

read
as
follows:

1.
The
school
year
shall
begin
on
the
first
day

of
July
and
each
regularly
established
elementary

and
secondary
school
shall
begin
no
sooner
than
a
day

during
the
calendar
week
in
which
the
first
day
of
26
September
falls
the
fourth
Monday
in
August
but
no
27
later
than
the
first
Monday
in
December
.
However,
if
28
the
first
day
of
September
falls
on
a
Sunday,
school
29
may
begin
on
a
day
during
the
calendar
week
which
30
immediately
precedes
the
first
day
of
September
unless
31
the
school
district
has
received
approval
from
the
32
department
of
education
for
a
pilot
program
for
an
33
innovative
school
year
in
accordance
with
subsection
3
.
34
School
shall
continue
for
at
least
one
hundred
eighty
35
days,
except
as
provided
in
subsection
3
,
and
may
be
36
maintained
during
the
entire
calendar
year.
However,
37
if
the
board
of
directors
of
a
district
extends
the
38
school
calendar
because
inclement
weather
caused
the
39
district
to
temporarily
close
school
during
the
regular
40
school
calendar,
the
district
may
excuse
a
graduating
41
senior
who
has
met
district
or
school
requirements
for
42
graduation
from
attendance
during
the
extended
school
43
calendar.
A
school
corporation
may
begin
employment
44
of
personnel
for
in-service
training
and
development
45
purposes
before
the
date
to
begin
elementary
and
46
secondary
school.
The
earliest
starting
date
specified
47
in
this
subsection
shall
not
apply
to
a
school
district
48
which
maintains
a
year
around
three
semester
school
