By striking page 13, line 11, through page 5 17, line 13, and inserting: 6 < DIVISION ___ 7 COURSES TAUGHT BY MEANS OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS 8 Sec. ___. Section 256.7, subsection 7, paragraph b, 9 Code Supplement 2011, is amended to read as follows: 10 b. The rules shall provide that when the curriculum 11 is taught by an appropriately licensed teacher at the 12 location at which the telecommunications originates, 13 the curriculum shall be received at a remote site shall 14 be under the supervision of a licensed teacher at any 15 remote site . The licensed teacher at the originating 16 site may provide supervision of students at a remote 17 site or the school district in which the remote site 18 is located may provide for supervision at the remote 19 site if the school district deems it necessary or if 20 requested to do so by the licensed teacher at the 21 originating site. For the purposes of this subsection , 22 “supervision” : 23 (1) “Supervision” means that the curriculum is 24 monitored by a proctor who need not be a licensed 25 teacher and the teacher is but shall be accessible 26 to the students receiving the curriculum by means of 27 telecommunications. 28 (2) “Proctor” means a school librarian, school 29 teacher, school administrator, school guidance 30 counselor, teacher assistant, para-educator, or other 31 individuals approved by the department. 32 Sec. ___. Section 256.7, subsection 7, paragraph 33 c, Code Supplement 2011, is amended by striking the 34 paragraph. 35 Sec. ___. Section 256.7, subsection 8, Code 36 Supplement 2011, is amended by striking the subsection 37 and inserting in lieu thereof the following: 38 8. a. At the discretion of the board of directors 39 of a school district or the authorities in charge of 40 a school, after taking into consideration necessity, 41 convenience, and cost-effectiveness, brokered courses 42 developed by outside sources may be approved for use by 43 a school district or school. 44 b. Courses used by a school district or school 45 in accordance with paragraph “a” shall be taught by 46 means of telecommunications by teachers licensed 47 under chapter 272; however, if the director determines 48 special circumstances exist, the director may waive 49 this requirement. >> 50 -1- S5166.5676 (4) 84 kh/rj 1/ 2 #1.
