Section 717.1, Code 2011, is amended by 3 adding the following new subsection: 4 NEW SUBSECTION . 01. “Egg-laying hen” means any 5 domesticated chicken, turkey, duck, goose, or guinea 6 fowl kept for purposes of egg production. 7 Sec. 2. NEW SECTION . 717.3 Confinement of 8 egg-laying hens —— penalty. 9 1. In addition, to other applicable provisions of 10 this chapter, a person shall not tether or confine 11 an egg-laying hen as part of an animal facility as 12 provided in chapter 717A, for all or the majority of 13 any day, in a manner that prevents such egg-laying 14 hen from lying down, standing up, fully extending its 15 wings, or turning around freely. 16 2.
