Section 321.255, Code 2011, is amended 5 to read as follows: 6 321.255 Local traffic-control devices. 7 1. Local authorities in their respective 8 jurisdiction shall place and maintain such 9 traffic-control devices upon highways under their 10 jurisdiction as they may deem necessary to indicate 11 and to carry out the provisions of this chapter or 12 local traffic ordinances or to regulate, warn, or guide 13 traffic. All Except as provided in this section, all 14 such traffic-control devices hereafter erected by 15 local authorities shall conform to the state manual and 16 specifications. 17 2. Notwithstanding section 321.252 or any 18 requirement of the department’s manual of traffic 19 control devices, a local authority that uses an 20 automated traffic law enforcement system in conjunction 21 with a traffic control signal shall establish the 22 following minimum periods of duration for a steady 23 circular yellow, steady yellow arrow, or flashing 24 yellow arrow light on every traffic control device 25 within the local authority’s jurisdiction: 26 a. For a traffic control device located in a speed 27 zone with a speed limit of twenty-five miles per hour 28 or less, three seconds. 29 b. For a traffic control device located in a speed 30 zone with a speed limit of more than twenty-five miles 31 per hour but not more than thirty miles per hour, three 32 and one-half seconds. 33 c. For a traffic control device located in a speed 34 zone with a speed limit of more than thirty miles per 35 hour but not more than thirty-five miles per hour, four 36 seconds. 37 d. For a traffic control device located in a speed 38 zone with a speed limit of more than thirty-five miles 39 per hour but not more than forty miles per hour, four 40 and one-half seconds. 41 e. For a traffic control device located in a speed 42 zone with a speed limit of more than forty miles per 43 hour but not more than forty-five miles per hour, five 44 seconds. 45 f. For a traffic control device located in a speed 46 zone with a speed limit of more than forty-five miles 47 per hour but not more than fifty miles per hour, five 48 and one-half seconds. 49 g.
