a

device
to
produce

recorded
images
of
vehicles
being
operated
in
violation

of
traffic
or
speed
laws.
“Automated
traffic
law

enforcement
system
”
does
not
include
a
device
operated
12
in
the
presence
of
a
peace
officer
or
a
device
mounted
13
on
a
school
bus
and
operated
in
the
presence
of
the
14
driver
of
the
school
bus.

Automated
traffic

law
enforcement
systems.

Notwithstanding
section
321.252
or
any
requirement
18
of
the
department’s
manual
of
traffic
control
devices,
19
a
local
authority
that
uses
an
automated
traffic
20
law
enforcement
system
in
conjunction
with
a
traffic
21
control
signal
shall
establish
the
following
minimum
22
periods
of
duration
for
a
steady
circular
yellow,
23
steady
yellow
arrow,
or
flashing
yellow
arrow
light
24
on
every
traffic
control
device
within
the
local
25
authority’s
jurisdiction:

1.
For
a
traffic
control
device
located
in
a
speed
27
zone
with
a
speed
limit
of
twenty-five
miles
per
hour
28
or
less,
three
seconds.

2.
For
a
traffic
control
device
located
in
a
speed
30
zone
with
a
speed
limit
of
more
than
twenty-five
miles
31
per
hour
but
not
more
than
thirty
miles
per
hour,
three
32
and
one-half
seconds.

a

a
speed

with

PRIOR

Notices
mailed
or
citations
issued

of
violations
committed
prior
to
the
effective
date
of

this
Act,
pursuant
to
a
local
ordinance
authorizing
the

use
of
an
automated
traffic
enforcement
system,
shall
8
not
be
invalidated
by
the
enactment
of
this
Act
and
9
shall
be
processed
according
to
the
provisions
of
the
10
law
under
which
they
were
authorized.
